Cricket as a truly global sport is in its infancy. The popularity of cricket in the Indian subcontinent parallels a religious fervour, but it is just starting to gain broader recognition elsewhere beyond the subcontinental and commonwealth diaspora.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, one of the biggest icons of cricket, wants to further the popularity and bring grassroots level development to a lot more geographies. MS Dhoni Cricket Academy has started that journey all over the world in 2018 where many state of the art cricket academy and kids development and junior development programs and residential schools was established in Dubai, Singapore, Patna, Nagpur and many other places, with further plans to expand in the region in the next several years. The aim of the academy is to bring kids and adults alike to the cricketing fold and make them world class cricketers, even those that have had limited experience with the game thus far.
Academia7 with partnership with Aarka Sports started the biggest Cricket Academy that has ever surfaced for Cricket to the shores of Singapore. Currently the academy is running out of two Cricket Coaching Centres. One at St. Patrick's School at 490 East Coast Road and the second centre is at Singapore Indian Association at Balestier Road. The academy has over 350 kids training under best supervision that is possible in Singapore.
Junior Cricket Development or Kids Cricket Development was always in mind for CEO of Aarka Sports Mr. Mihir Diwakar and Academia7 CEO Shubhamoy 'Josh' Ghosh. Hours and hours of deliberation took place how to make sure Cricket is popular in Singapore and how we can generate home grown talent from ground up for future. A framework has been put in place and execution has started since January 20, 2018.
This is where we needed to make sure we offer training for every type of expertise under one umbrella. Batting, Pace Bowling, Spring Bowling, Fielding, Fitness, Mental Training. First of its kind in Singapore. And a great partnership happened.
A meeting between Chetan Suryawanshi, CEO of CricKingdom and Shubhamoy 'Josh' Ghosh, CEO of Academia7 took place we ironed out what to done on ground to make this state of the art training available to the kids in Singapore. Thus Academia7 and Crickingdom join hands to offer the best state of the arts Cricket Coaching for the purpose of Kids and Junior development and bring popularity of Cricket to the next level.
Academia7, Aarka Sports and Crickingdom will tirelessly further MS’s ambition to make cricket a truly global sport. MS Dhoni Cricket Academy in Singapore will feature top International coaches in the region, working on a structured curriculum developed by MS Dhoni himself. The Academy will progressively open in Singapore, HongKong, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Korea, Japan and others countries.
Shubhamoy 'Josh' Ghosh, CEO of Academia7, said “We are very excited to bring cricket development to various schools and cricket clubs in Singapore and progressively to the rest of Asia, so more stalwarts like MS can emerge on the global scale in years to come, even from non-traditional countries. I always believed you do not need to be at the forefront for betterment of the game. You do not need to be part of the system to improve the system. In the field of cricket training or coaching major contributions are made where the coaches had passion and tenacity to do something for the kids year after year. They barely was part of the system and they barely had coaching degrees. As an administrator what you need is to identify these jewels and bring them to this region so that the kids are benefit from the same. We are here to build a platform and system followed by test playing nations so that we can raise talents from ground up and who are capable to shine at the highest level. On top of this continuous visit by major accomplished and successful international cricketers whom kids admire and follow to change the future. One name strike every cord and that is MS Dhoni. No better role model right now in cricket than MS Dhoni. This is exciting and going to be great. Everyone in the team is excited to be part of MS Dhoni's team. MS is extremely keen to monitor the progress of the kids and guide them to the next level.
You also need platform where these kids can go back to these test playing nations and put their skills to test. Work has started long back since 2014 to understand how professional cricket is run in India, how that regime works. Second division clubs are feeder for state level clubs in in any state and thats where you come across fresh/raw talents. These are clubs where our academy kids will be thrown to see where they stand. This will give them realization where they stand in terms of interest in cricket. A major change in the approach.
They say practice makes a player perfect. If you want to make a career out of cricket MS Dhoni believes you need to practice 5 days a week plus you need match practice at the highest level months after months. We have created a platform both in India and in this region."
MS has one of the best records as captain of India, having won ICC trophies in all formats of the game : World Cup in 2011, World T20 in 2007 and ICC Champions trophy in 2013. MS led India in 331 international games, most by any captain. Unsurpassed in his ability to read the game, and possessing enormous wicketkeeping and batting skillset, MS embodies skills that make him a true leader and a great friend. Gary Kirsten once said of him, “I will go to war with Dhoni by my side”.
“Cricket is not just a sport, it teaches leadership, trust, determination and a lot more. MS has time and again demonstrated how cricket can positively shape personal development. MS Dhoni Cricket academy in Singapore will bring skill development beyond just the technical aspects of Cricket”, said Mihir Diwakar, Managing Director of Aarka Sports. Mihir represented India in the U-19 world cup.
“The performance of the players will be closely tracked and a report will be given to their parents every quarter. There will be tours to Test-playing nations and the chance to participate in international tournaments. The academy’s aim to serve as feeder for the Singapore national team.", said Chetan Suryawanshi, CEO of CricKingdom.
